Merry Christmas - A Message From The Trust Chairman

As we approach the festive break it seemed appropriate to end the year with a message to all members to thank you all for your support over the last 12 months. As ever with our club nothing is simple and the last 12 months has seen promise of the long awaited stadium appear closer but as ever so far away.
On the field this season has seen extremes of performance with probably more poor than great and yet we sit handily placed – if we can just get that fighting spirit back that seems to have deserted us and break the run of losses – just maybe we'll get out of this league.
Our AGM resulted in some changes to the committee – full details will be provided in the next newsletter but for now you are stuck with me as Chairman for the next 12 months…and as such I thought I would share my letter to Santa with you.
Have a great break and a healthy and happy new year.
Paul FitzGerald
Dear Santa,
It's been a long time since I've written to you (ok, it was last year, but at least it's regular) but there's some things I really want this year.
I know being up in the North Pole, you've probably not heard of Southend United, they are my football team you see and frankly they are not very good. And that's why I'm hoping you'll get me some things off of my prezzy list.
I feel I've been very good especially this year because I've stuck with my team (along with around 5000 friends) even though they've sunk to the lower echelons of the professional game. As I've done so, I and others like me have faced the ridicule and scorn of other fans some of which are barely 42 miles away up the A12
So with that in mind, here's my list. Please can I have :-
  • A Striker (fit preferably) that can spot the two white pole like things at
each end of the pitch – only need to know about one each 45 mins and am happy to wait for the January sales if it makes it cheaper
  • A change to the rules perhaps to allow French people to be excused from normal rules re kicking people and making rash challenges
  • A torch – the light at the end of the 13 year tunnel has been growing dim and it would be good to see FF in the distance
  • A new supermarket in Southend. What the town really needs is another supermarket so it would be great if you could build one – preferably as soon as possible and even better on the spot where I normally park.
  • A Leatherette Chair - Tara Brady had said that there are not enough chairs in the Boardroom for the Trust to take up their promised seat - so this should make it easier
  • A Diary with automatic reminders – I would donate this to my local club so they don't forget to hold their AGM's
  • World peace – this is just a failsafe if you can't get any of the others I'm guessing this would be easiest to arrange
Merry Christmas from all at the Shrimpers Trust
