We are collectively proud to announce the first series of ‘Shrimpers Heritage’ trading cards, celebrating the historic contributions of Southend United players and their impact on the club, game and wider society.
Southend United has hosted some significant members of the footballing community, and this ‘Shrimpers Heritage’ project helps uncover the hidden histories of the club’s Black and Minority Ethnic players through a unique set of 12 illustrated trading cards.

“Southend United has hosted some significant members of the footballing community, and this ‘Shrimpers Heritage’ project helps uncover the hidden histories of the club’s Black and Minority Ethnic players through a unique set of 12 illustrated trading cards.
Each card tells a story and serves as a portal to a digital exhibition archive celebrating the ‘2025 class’ with longer biographies, interviews and profiles.
Purchasing a pack of cards will provide teaching resources for Show Racism the Red Card in delivering Southend United themed workshops in year 6 classes across Southend and make sure every pupil leaves with a free pack of cards.
These workshops aim to foster an understanding of discrimination and racism through various interactive, Southend United themed activities.
This project is the recipient of a Sporting Heritage Community Grant, helping us to preserve Southend United’s history for future generations to enjoy.

We are pleased to announce Chris Powell MBE as the first player announcement of the series.
“This is a fantastic project which all parties involved have done brilliantly to put together. Whilst the issue of racism in football and society has improved since my playing days, there is still work to do. Initiatives like this excellent workshop and trading card set can only help, by engaging and educating children at a young age. I am ecstatic to have been chosen to launch it.” Chris Powell MBE
