Thank you for agreeing to purchase one of the floodlight casings – a little bit of Roots Hall history will soon be yours! This note details the arrangements, options and payment details for you to obtain your casing. Please carefully read all of the information below and then click on the link given at the end to select your option and make payment.

A reminder

The club is refurbishing all four of the floodlight pylons – this will involve the removal of all 88 existing lamp casings. The Southend United History Society are retaining nine casings for future display purposes, leaving a maximum of 79 available for purchase by fans at £100 a piece. All money raised from this exercise is being set aside by the Society for future club heritage projects.

The casings are being removed by the contractors during the two weeks leading up to 23 April 2026.

This opportunity received massive interest and we have a significant waiting list. So, if you have received an email giving you the option to now purchase but do not do so by 6 April 2026 you will lose the option and we will contact the next person on the waiting list offering them the opportunity.

The casings

The bulbs will have been removed (and disposed of) from the casings as they contain hazardous material so what you are purchasing is the casing only. The majority of the casings have a rounded appearance but some are rectangular – you cannot specify whether you want a round or rectangular one in advance but if on collecting there are some of each left you can choose which type you would like.

Please note that the casings have been up on the floodlight pylons for many years and so some may be quite weathered. You will have to accept a casing from the choice left when you arrive to collect so the earlier you can get there to collect the better.

Those eligible to purchase

You are only eligible to make a purchase if you have received an email from SUEPA confirming that you have that option. If you have not received that email and still make a purchase you will be refunded your purchase price less a £10 administration charge. When you collect your casing your name will be checked against a confirmed list of eligible purchasers by the SUEPA person handing the casing to you.

Collection arrangements

The casings need to be collected within designated time slot options – we want as many people as possible to collect on either Thursday 23 April 2026 (Option 1) or Friday 24 April 2026 (Option 2) … and remember, those collecting earliest will get the widest choice.

However, we recognise that this might not work for everyone so we are making a third option available whereby for an additional £25 we will correspond with you to make arrangements for you to collect by no later than Friday 22nd May.

It is not possible to deliver/post the casing to you. You will need to make your own arrangements to come and collect by selecting one of the three options.

As a reminder the casings have a width of circa 40 cm and weigh no more than 25 kg. These are approximations (and so the dimensions and weight could be different) and until they have been removed from the pylons we cannot be any more specific. You will need to be able to lift your casing yourself to take it to your transport and have suitable transport for that purpose. We cannot accept any liability for the casing once you have collected it.

All collections for all three Options are from Roots Hall. Enter via the main car park off Victoria Avenue and make your way to the North East corner – a SUEPA representative will be there to show you where to then pick up your casing.

Collection options and price

Option 1: Thursday 23rd April 2026, 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, cost £100

Option 2: Friday 24th April, 10.00 am to 6.00 pm, cost £100

Option 3: By no later than 22nd May 2026, cost £125

Unforeseen circumstances

The contractor anticipates taking down the casings from the pylons at some point between 13th April and 22nd April 2026. If this fails to happen for any reason (e.g. due to adverse weather) we will notify all purchasers to make alternative collection arrangements.

Further, if when being removed any of the casings are damaged to an extent that they are not deemed suitable for purchase then we will inform the last person(s) making their purchase and provide a full refund.

Payment

You can select your option and make payment HERE

Once you have made payment

You will receive an acknowledgement of payment email from The Shrimpers Trust.

If you have selected either Option 1 or Option 2 then you simply need to turn up at Roots Hall during that Option time frame to collect your casing. If due to unforeseen circumstances you are unable to collect your casing you should notify SUEPA by email (suepassoc@gmail.com) and then we will shift you to Option 3 on receipt of an additional £25.

If you select Option 3 we will contact you by email after 25th April 2026 to make arrangements for you to collect your casing by no later than 22nd May 2026.

Refunds cannot be given. If you fail to collect your casing within your Option timeframe then it will be made available for purchase to someone on the waiting list.

And finally …

We apologise if the conditions appear to be a little ‘strict’ but as we are sure you will appreciate when dealing with a large number of people we need to set parameters and adhere to them.

We hope once received you enjoy owning your piece of Roots Hall history and we look for ward to receiving your pictures regarding how you have used/displayed your casing.
